The Mighty Banjh Oak
Dr Ankur Joshi’s module, “The Mighty Banjh Oak – Pillars of the Himalayan Ecosystem,” educated students on the critical role of keystone species, using Quercus leucotrichophora as a prime example. Participants learned how the Banj Oak’s canopy provided shelter, its leaves enriched the soil, and its roots prevented erosion, ensuring stream and river flow. The module highlighted the impact of anthropogenic activities on these trees and the broader Himalayan ecosystem. By fostering awareness, it aimed to inspire conservation efforts for the Banjh Oak and its ecological community.
