The Doon School Thar Desert Expedition 2016
The Thar Desert Expedition, a ten day trek was held for the 6th consecutive year in December 2016. The journey began in Bikaner from Mehrasar to the Indo-Pak Sanchu Border. 19 students and masters participated in this arduous tour which was completed successfully by all the participants.
Trekking has always been an integral part of life at Doon and aims to enhance the boys’ wider education by offering this wonderful chance to enjoy and hone their interest and skill in trekking.
The trek included crossing huge sand dunes, observing desert wild life which included Chinkara, Desert Fox, Blue Bulls, Falcons, Damsel Cranes, Siberian Cranes and Jackals. The team also passed the Indira Gandhi Nehar Pariyojana, the longest canal of Asia and toured the Indo-Pak border at SANCHU.
