Conrad Challenge
Doon empowers its students to become the architects of positive change through participation in the Conrad Challenge, a prestigious innovation competition. This global platform ignites a spirit of entrepreneurship in young minds (ages 13-18), equipping them to tackle real-world problems with global impact. Students collaborate in teams, harnessing science, technology, and their creativity to develop innovative solutions. Several teams from The Doon School have participated in this challenge and several students have been awarded the “Conrad Innovator” title.

CERN Beamline
Beam-line for schools hosted by the CERN institute in Switzerland invites participants to submit projects where they design experiments for a particle accelerator. Our team comprising Svanik Garg, Aradhya Jain, Harshvardhan Maskara, Soham Agarwal and Arnav Pratap Chaudhary was ranked top 20 worldwide and they received a certificate of merit. Their project was a study on the relationship between the Bremsstrahlung photons produced by the incident positron beam and the thickness of the target material (which was studied for 4 different materials of varying atomic masses).

IRIS Science Fair
The IRIS National Fair is the Nation’s most prominent and innovative science competition. The competition encourages national participation and requires students to submit ideas in 18 different categories ranging from biotechnology to engineering mechanics. An example project from The Doon School is an ongoing inquiry into the use of Neural Networks to map groundwater contamination with arsenic in the Indian state of West Bengal. The IRIS National Fair also serves as a feeder competition to the larger Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).

The Avagadro Chemistry Exam
The Avogadro Chemistry Examination is a noteworthy competition hosted by the University of Waterloo in Canada. It attempts to examine and increase high school pupils’ interest in chemistry. The exam tests core chemistry principles and problem-solving abilities. Participants can demonstrate their expertise, get recognition, and prepare for future academic endeavours in the discipline of chemistry. High-achieving students frequently obtain diplomas and awards, which improve their academic portfolios. Krishay Sutodia, Tarun Doss and Tanmay Gupta have all won distinctions at the national level.

BIEA Doon
Doon School boys competed in the 2023 British International Education Association (BIEA) Youth STEM Competition. They competed in the Sustainable Cities Development category and offered a concept for carbon-neutral structures in Slavutych, Ukraine, finishing as the prestigious global runner-up. Another team of the A Form (10th) in the Sustainable Textiles category has advanced to the finals, which will be held in London this July. This bodes well for their future endeavours in the dynamic field of STEM.

Sir Isaac Newton Physics Contest
The University of Waterloo conducts the Sir Isaac Newton Physics Contest, an annual high school competition. The contest, named after the renowned physicist, challenges candidates with complex physics problems that assess their conceptual understanding and problem-solving abilities. Its mission is to inspire young minds to pursue physics and recognize outstanding talent. High achievers receive certificates, medals, and scholarships to assist them in thriving academically and professionally in science and engineering.

International Young Physiscist Competition
This research-based physics tournament, also known as the Physics World Cup, has seen our students represent Team India on international stages several times. The Indian Young Physicists’ Tournament involves students researching various experimental physics topics before presenting and defending their findings in the form of physics tournaments. The tournament comprises several rounds that test the scientific temperament and depth of research of participants. Yuv Agarwal and Keshav Bagrodia from Doon finished on the podium (1st and 2nd place, respectively) at the INYPT 2023 edition. Aradhya Jain was selected to represent India at the 2022 IYPT in Romania.

Space Settlement Design Competition
The Space Settlement Design Competition (SSDC) is a worldwide inter-school competition where participants propose a model for a futuristic human settlement in space accomplishing a certain criterion. It puts one in the shoes of an aerospace engineer in the industry, prompting students to discuss and design a futuristic space city. Through this design challenge, students learn valuable skills such as collaboration, documentation, and performing under pressure. The School’s team has consistently qualified for the International Finals held at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida over the past few years. The latest round was in July 2023, when the team emerged as runners-up. The team also won the International Finals in 2021 and the Asian Regionals Semifinal Round in 2023. The Doon School has been participating in this competitive design challenge for the past eight years.

Alpha
The Doon School organises Alpha, a student-run annual science competition. Last year, over 10 Schools across India participated in the competition, debating on scientific research, collaborating on engineering projects and engaging clue-hunts.

Dipanker Sen Science Quiz
The Dipanker Sen Science Quiz is a fun and informative way to test knowledge across various scientific disciplines. The quiz includes questions from areas like physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, and astronomy. It is an Intra-School multiple choice quiz, being a great way of assessing understanding of fundamental scientific concepts, sharpening critical thinking skills, and satisfying curiosity about the natural world.

Shanti Swaroop Essay Writing Competition
Doon encourages intellectual competition through its annual Inter-House Shanti Swaroop Science Essay Competition. Students from all five Houses engage in a battle of wits, crafting compelling essays that explore a variety of scientific essay topics. This competition aims to instil the skills of scientific exploration through the use of literature.

B.G Pitre Science Short Story Writing Competition
Named after a former School Master, this competition requires students to write a science fiction story. This challenges the students to think critically and creatively. This competition serves as an epitome of the intersection between science and literature; this competition challenges young aspiring scientists to transcend the boundaries of science and demonstrate science through storytelling.
