Job Title: Fund Raiser 

Reports to: Head of Fund Raising & Alumni Relations

Location: The Doon School, Dehradun

Experience (in years): 10 years or more

Nature of work: Full – Time 

The Doon School is seeking an experienced Fund Raiser. The candidate should have expert communication skills and a keen sense of initiative to spot fundraising opportunities, manage institutional fundraising campaigns and develop relationships with potential donors. The candidate should have a proven track record in soliciting donations, creating high quality proposals and nurturing lasting relations with past donors/ clients. The fund raiser will help the School to move closer to its financial goals.

We’re looking for a motivated professional who believes in the mission of our School and has an exceptional drive which should result in significantly furthering our fundraising efforts. The candidate should be organized and have the desire to strive for excellence.

Objectives of this role

  • Promote awareness of the School’s mission and vision.
  • Develop a network of dedicated donors and volunteers.
  • Identify fresh fundraising prospects.
  • Plan fundraising initiatives to help the School meet its financial goals.
  • Form strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure major donors are satisfied and kept in the loop.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Managing Donor Communication and Relationships:
  • Research individuals, corporations, and foundations that are interested in philanthropy.
  • Provide updates to the Board, organize fundraising meetings, and travel to meet potential donors.
  • Effectively convey the School’s mission, vision, and initiatives to potential donors.
  • Write grant applications and fundraising proposals.
  • Strategize and successfully execute fundraising campaigns.
  • Coordinate fundraising events. 

 

  • Donor Engagement, Management and Reporting:
  • Ensure timely and proactive donor reporting processes.
  • Lead donor management processes, including reports on projects, scholarships, and impact assessments.
  • Manage donor engagement activities, update the tracker, and maintain donor documents in a central repository.
  • Provide donors with requested information, manage donor visits, and enhance relationships.

 

  • Managing Prospect Database, Outreach and Pipeline:
  • Update and maintain prospect databases, validating and adding new prospects with contact details.
  • Manage and update the prospect pipeline, capturing real-time updates in CRM.
  • Maintain a repository of prospects and their contact details on CRM.
  • Generate reports and proposals for prospect outreach and finalize documentation for prospect closing.

 
Required skills and qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of experience in investment banking, fundraising, sales, or marketing with an MBA from a premier B School or similar qualification.
  • Proficiency in MS Office – specifically excellent skills in PowerPoint and Excel 
  • Familiarity and ease in operating CRM – Zoho
  • Ability to operate online resources, databases, and Google sheets. 
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills. Experience in writing grant proposals, and fundraising letters.
  • Proven research skills: tenacity and perseverance to gather data/generate knowledge by leveraging multiple source – digital and print, primary and secondary. 
  • Strong process orientation, attention to detail, organized and disciplined. 
  • Critical thinking and analytical mindset – the ability to join the dots. 
  • Ability to respond back in shorter timelines, adherence to strict deadlines; Open to work on weekends (on rare occasions) 
  • Ability to successfully balance priorities while managing multiple tasks and planning big events.

 
Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Certification, diploma, or similar qualification in fundraising.
  • Competence with donor management systems.
  • Confidence in public speaking.
  • Legal or accounting experience a plus.
  • Ability to lead and motivate colleagues and volunteers.
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle several priorities.
  • Preferably have an interest in economics and current affairs.
  • Maintain good interpersonal relations, project, and time management skills.
