International Student Science Conference 2016

The Doon School has organised the International Student Science Conference (ISSC) 2016 at its campus from 24th – 29th October 2016. The general theme of the conference is ‘sustainable development’. Sixty eight delegates from the following schools are participating in the conference:

1) Hutchins School, Hobart, Australia

2) Tianjin Nankai High School, Beijing, China

3) St. Paul’s Co-educational College, Hong Kong

4) Stella Matutina Girls’ High School, Taichung, Taiwan

5) Liceo Classico ‘Marco Foscarini’, Venice, Italy

6) The Doon School, Dehradun

7) Welham Girls’ School, Dehradun

8) Welham Boys’ School, Dehradun

9) Unison World School, Dehradun

The student participants will present research work done at their respective schools to the audience and will discuss relevant issues pertaining to sustainable development.

Several eminent speakers will also address the students on matters of the environment, ecology and conservation over the next few days. Among these are Dr. Bivash Pandav from the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun whose expertise is Tiger conservation and the conservation of the Olive Ridley sea turtle. Mr. Biju Negi, Writer-Editor, Researcher, Development Consultant, Documentation Specialist and an Activist, for over 30 years who has worked at the local, national and international levels. Ms. Manu Mehta, from the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun which is a branch of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) whose expertise is Atmospheric parameter retrieval and Time series analysis. Dr. P. C. Banerji is an amateur Bird Enthusiast who will give a talk on Birds of Doon Valley and Dr. Brij Mohan Sharma of the Society of Pollution & Environmental Conservation Scientists (SPECS,  whose pioneering works include science popularisation, conservation of energy and water purification

‘Common Birds of Chandbagh, a book with detailed information about  several birds inhabiting the verdant campus of The Doon School was released by the Headmaster Matthew Raggett at the inaugural ceremony.
