Life Skills Course
As healthy development and effective learning are predicated on good mental health and emotional stability, the school’s life skills course is based on the UK’s Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) programme. Boys have one lesson a week beginning in D form and continuing through to SC Form.
There is a growing body of scientific evidence on the causal factors around happiness and well-being, which can then be applied in work with individuals and institutions. Having a better understanding of how to increase the likelihood of happiness in life and how to channel the emotional pains of setbacks en route are the sort of skills that can substantially improve an individual’s progress and eventual life outcomes.
Research has shown, for example, that becoming involved in challenging and absorbing activities is important to people’s ability to cope better with life. As a successful private boarding school which focuses on a genuine “all-round” education, The Doon School already offers its boys a huge range of such activities.
